Asian Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers : UWW to come back with some solution next week after consultation with IOC

The issue of organization of the Olympic qualifiers in Asia has become an huge headache for the United World Wrestling (UWW). UWW is in fix, as Kyrgyzstan decided to pull out as hosts of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers. The Coronavirus scare is multiplying by the day and UWW like various other global sporting bodies are clueless on the way forward on the organization of their respective sporting events.

According to the official release by UWW, they are now looking for some other solutions after pull out of Kyrgyzstan. The release categorically said,  “United World Wrestling is now considering other solutions and discussions with the International Olympic Committee will be continued next week”. This means the way forward on the Asian Qualifiers will only be revealed after the meeting with UWW mandarins and IOC officials.

The event was originally scheduled to be held in Xi’an, China from 27th to 29th March, but the championship was reallocated to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for the same dates, in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus which is affecting several large cities in China.”Due to the rapid spread of coronavirus infection not only in China, but also in other countries of the world, fears are growing in Kyrgyzstan,” wrote K.M. Arpachiev, Deputy Drector of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Education and Sports under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. “Republican Headquarters on the prevention of penetration into the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic and to prevent further spread of coronavirus infection , headed by the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic M.D. Abylgaziyev, has strengthened measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in all directions.”
