Indian wrestlers delivered historic performance at the U-15 wrestling championships in Taichung, China. As they return home, they were given grand welcome by their well-wishers and fans.
India’s superb show led to a rich haul of record 28 medals at the Asian Championships. This means 30 member Indian team at the Asian U15 championships ended up with 28 medals with only two wrestlers failing to bag medal for India. This medal included 13 gold, 14 silver and 1 bronze.The performance also ensured that India finish with the maximum number of gold medals in the championship.

India’s domination in the championship can be gauged from the fact that all 10 Indian wrestlers in the freestyle category finished on the podium. This resulted in India finishing on top of the team rankings for the first time with 225 points. Kazakhstan finished 2nd and Japan at number 3.
India gave creditable performance in the Greco-Roman category as well. The category which is considered as India’s weakest gave India 9 medals in total with 3 Gold and 6 silver medals. With 204 points, India finished second behind Kazakhstan who accumulated 230 points.
The exploits of Indian girls was also unprecedented at the championships. Led by Cadet world champion Komal, Indian Under 15 girls bagged 4 Gold medals and 5 silver medals with only Riya in the 66kg failed to lead India on to podium. In the overall tally Japan pushed India to the second spot in the U15 Asian Girls team rankings. While India finished with 212 points, Japan was top of the table with 225 points.
