Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) cancelled the wrestling coaching camp slated from March 25 to April 24 in Mumbai due to Coronavirus pandemic. Apart from coaches and trainers, over 60 wrestlers were supposed to participate in the camp.
“Considering the outbreak of novel coronavirus, it has been decided to call off the wrestling coaching camp at Parel (Mumbai),” the New Indian Express quoted RSPB communique.
“A total of 68 wrestlers – 33 freestyle and 29 Greco-Roman – were supposed to be part of the camp. Besides them, six women wrestlers, three coaches each in three styles, trainers, local managers and attendants were in the list,” a coach told the New Indian Express.
New dates for the camp are yet to be announced. Earlier, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had suspended the men and women national camp held at Sonepat and Lucknow respectively until March 31.
The famed Chhatrasal Stadium also shut its operation in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak. The Haryana and Punjab governments had also instructed all sports training centres including akharas to close down until March 31.
