Iran has canceled the national training camp for freestyle and Greco-Roman in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. All the wrestlers have been sent home until further notice. The new development comes after Iran reported 26 lives.
The first in Iran was reported on February 19. Since then additional cases have been registered. Iran’s Ministry spokesperson Kianoush Jahanpour told the media that 106 more cases of the diseases had been confirmed, taking the toll to 245, AFP reported.

The cases reported in Iran are highest outside China. The epidemic has also caused other big sporting events to either get canceled or postponed.
The Asian Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers have been put off due to the current situation. There is no official confirmation on the next date and venue.
The Press Service of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Education and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic in its statement said, “This decision is due to the aggravation of the situation with the spread of Coronavirus in the world”.
The Iranian Wrestling Federation, however, in its press release has said that the event will be held in Kyrgyzstan but in April. The uncertainty over the qualifiers and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics looms at large until the deadly virus is brought under control.
