A 101-year-old man — a champion pehelwan and MP Kesri in his youth — lost his final bout with Covid-19 and died in an Indore hospital on Saturday. He is MP’s oldest person to die of coronavirus. His first and third sons — also MP Kesris — are in the same hospital as Covid suspects.
“He was the oldest person to be infected with the virus,” said Dr Ravi Dosi, head of respiratory department at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS).

Before this, the oldest person to be infected by Covid-19 was a 98-year-old Indore woman, who recovered. She didn’t have any comorbidity.
The 101-year-old was admitted to ICU on Thursday in a critical condition. He was asymptomatic and had been taken to hospital for chronic kidney disease. He was referred to another hospital where they X-rayed his lungs, suspected pneumonia and sent him to SAIMS after he tested positive on Thursday.
Dr Dosi said he had multiple comorbidities, including chronic artery disease, renal disease and hypertension. He was on high oxygen demand right from the time of admission, and was given 40-60 litres of high-flow oxygen, but couldn’t be saved, he added.
“He used to work out till his last days. Every morning, he used to guzzle down half a litre of milk, and another half-litre in evening, along with dry fruits and figs. He personally supervised his dairy farm of 60 cows,” his nephew told TOI.
He is survived by four sons from two marriages. Two of them, aged 75 and 55, are in hospital. Two others — who were Indore Kesris — are in home quarantine.
