The New Delhi hosted Asian Wrestling Championships bronze medallist Gursharan Kaur lost to Kiran in the 76kg category and will not be participating in the Asian Olympic Qualifiers.
The 35-year-old made her comeback at the international scene after seven years and won the bronze in the non-Olympic 72kg category. On the other hand, Kiran was India’s choice for the 76kg category but failed to capitalise on the opportunity. She lost in the third round.
The finals of the trials was a rematch to their tryouts held last month ahead of the Asian Championships where Kiran had won against Gursharan.
In the Greco Roman 60kg category, Gyanender defeated Vijay 4-1 and marched into the Indian team for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers which will be hosted at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan next month.
Gyanender who missed out on a bronze medal at the Asian Championships last week was given another opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands.
Next up, he will be competing in the qualifiers to grab a spot for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
