It was declared by the Iran Wrestling Federation that the injury of World and Olympic Champion Hassan Yazdani is not serious. The Iranian Federation had also declared that Yazdani will be back in action with-in 1 month. But in a huge setback to the Iran Wrestling and Yazdani himself, the Iran Wrestling management has announced that the Hassan Yazdani will have to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee.

The federation’s officials along with the doctors re-examined Yazdani the Nur-Sultan world championship gold medallist in 86kg on Sunday. And it was diagnosed by the knee specialists that his injury has flared up once again and it will be better for him to undergo arthroscopic surgery. Though no official statement was made by the doctors on the recovery time for Yazdani’s surgery but normally after these kind of surgeries patient takes minimum 3 months to recover. This means the Iranian will be out of action for next 3 months and will get very little time to prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Earlier, the wrestling world was questioning the absence of world and olympic champ Hassan Yazdani from the World Wrestling Clubs Cup competition which concluded on Friday in Iran. Everyone was wondering why the Iranian, nicknamed as ‘The Greatest’ decided to give the tournament in his own backyard a miss. After the conclusion of the tournament the press department of Iran Wrestling announced that the 2016 Olympic gold medalist Yazdani tore the meniscus in his knee during the training for the 2019 World Wrestling Clubs Cup. He tore the meniscus in his knee and will got an MRI done on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury.

The MRI report only revealed that Yazdani will have to undergo surgery for his knee. The injury to Yazdani is not the only bad report for the Iran Wrestling. Another Tokyo 2020 hopeful for Iran Alireza Karimi had also injured himself and will also be out of action for the next 10-12 weeks. Karimi won a silver medal at Nur-Sultan in the non-olympic weight category of 92kg.
