Kyle Snyder is one of the greatest wrestlers in the world. The 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist is his country’s one of the biggest hopes for an Olympic medal. He carries a lot of hope of his countrymen on those big shoulders just like the Avengers did when Thanos attacked the earth. And this probably one of the reasons that he is a big ‘Marvel Universe’ fan.
In an interview to the Rudis, a US wrestling apparel manufacturer he said “ I love the Marvel universe. The movies pump me up and so does watching elite wrestling,” he said.
Snyder is a firm believer that his personality should be represented by the gear he wears on the mat. “My gear should represent my personality just like it does for the Marvel heroes. To many people wrestlers are their heroes,” he added.
Snyder collaborated with the Rudis for the Captain America singlet. He competed in the 2018 Beat The Street event and called it ‘one of the coolest wrestling event’. The 24-year-old USA grappler won a gold medal in the 97kg in the competition.
He booked the berth for his country in the 97kg, after a bronze medal finish at the 2019 World Championships. Snyder, however, still has to confirm his place in the USA Olympic team. His biggest competitor for the spot will be 2019 Worlds gold medallist J’den Cox.
The 25-year-old will be moving to 97kg from 92kg – a non-Olympic weight class – to bid his chances for the Tokyo Games. The USA Wrestling Federation is yet to hold the national trials for the Olympics which were postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak. An official announcement for the revised date is yet to be announced.
The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in 2021 from July 23 to August 9.
