Individual World Cup Day 7: On the last day of the Wrestling World Cup, Deepak Punia and Gaurav Baliyan will vie for podium finish in Serbia. Both the youngsters will be playing in the bronze medal match in freestyle competition on Friday.
In 79 kg, Baliyan had started positively, beating Aron Caneva of Italy 7-0 by fall. In the quarterfinal, the Indian grappler locked horns against Alans Amirovs in a high scoring bout. Both the wrestlers in total scored 37 points, with Baliyan amassing 17 to his credit. However, he could not continue the momentum in the semis and lost to Russian Champion Akhmed Usmanov 10-0 on technical superiority.
In 86kg, Punia too had a great start, beating Lithuanian Champion Ivars Samusonoks and 2018 European bronze medalist Uri Kalashnikov. However, the Russian champion Dauran Kurugliev shut the world No.2 Deepak PUNIA to advance to the 86kg final. All the scoring came in the first period, with Kurugliev getting a takedown and gut wrench.
