The wrestling world was eagerly waiting for the new dates of the Asian Olympic Qualifiers and the update about the postponed event has come from a unexpected quarter. Though the world governing body of the sport, United World Wrestling is yet to issue a new dates or any update on the Asian qualifiers, the Iran Wrestling Federation has reported on their official platform that the qualifiers will now be held in April. According to the official platform of Iran Wrestling iawf.ir, they were informed by the world body that the Asian Qualifiers will now take place from April 8th to 10th during a call with the officials of the world body. The Iranian federation has further reported that the venue for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers still stay undecided and will be fixed at the later stage by the world body.

It is worth noting that due to the menace of the Coronavirus all around the globe, the Asian Olympic Qualifiers were first shifted out of Xian, China to Bishek, Kyrgyzstan. The event was scheduled for 27th to 29th March in Bishek but the Kyrgyzstan government last week pulled out as host due to growing Coronavirus concerns. Many of the Asian countries including Iran, China, Japan, Korea and others are currently grappling with issues related to Covid19 which led to intervention by UWW.
The world body is yet to make formal announcement on the new dates which in all possibility will only be done once the host for the Asian Qualifiers are finalized. It is also important to note that the last Olympic Qualifier event, i.e World Olympic Qualifiers are scheduled for 30th April to 3rd May in Sofia, Bulgaria and all the continental qualifiers have to be completed before the quotas in the world qualifiers are released and finalized.
