Japan is known for its meticulous preparation for whatever they do. The hosts of Olympics 2020 is taking the same approach to its wrestling (Kushti) team. When most of the nations are still unsure of their road-map for Tokyo 2020, Japan has already started their camp for ‘Mission 2020 Olympics’.
The entire Japan men’s squad which participated in the 2019 world wrestling championships in Nur-Sultan and the team selected for the U23 world wrestling championships in Budapest has assembled at the Ajinomoto Training Center in Tokyo. Both the squads are training together.
Japan team could not perform according to expectations at the world championships. The men’s freestyle team failed to finish at the podium for the first time. That is the reason Japan has started their preparations early.
At the meeting after the first practice, Japan team’s head coach pointed out, “I ’m really disappointed that there were no medals at the world championships. I want to get a medal at Olympics now and for the same preparations need to be tough”.
Japan is now targeting U23 World Championships starting in Budapest from Oct28 for some redemption. In each of the U23 World Championship editions, Japan has managed medals from the freestyle wrestlers. In 2017 (Rinya Nakamura) and 2018 (Toshihiro Hasegawa, Satoshi Higuchi won medals for Japan.
