The Asian Olympic Wrestling Qualifiers, shunted out of China due to Coronavirus outbreak, may now be held in Kyrgyzstan. The United World Wrestling has zeroed in on the former Russian Union State to host the event. A formal announcement is still awaited.
Kyrgyzstan will reportedly be hosting the Asian Olympic Games Qualifiers instead of Xi’an province, China. The sudden change in the venue is forced by =the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China.
The Olympic qualifying tournament is slated to be held from March 27 to 29.
Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and South Korea were among the other likely options. But they reportedly declined.
The world governing body UWW has now recommended to host the competition in Kyrgyzstan. In 2018, Kyrgyzstan hosted Asian Wrestling Championships. Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Deepak Punia and Ravi Kumar Dahiya have already booked a ticket to Tokyo Olympics. Meanwhile, wrestlers like Naveen (130 kg Greco-Roman), and Anshu Malik (57 kg Women).
