Bilyal Makhov, the maverick world champion wrestler turned MMA athlete is once again making a comeback to the world of wrestling. 32 year old Makhov who has 7 world championship medals to his credit including 3 gold medals will be making a comeback to the mat at the Moscow Grand Prix – The ALROSA CUP starting from Nov29th.
Makhov has a unique distinction of winning world championship medals at both Greco-Roman & Freestyle at the same world wrestling championships. The Russian won bronze medals in both Greco-Roman & Freestyle at 2015 Las Vegas World Championships. Post his 2016 Rio debacle and injuries, Makhov decided to sign up with Ulitmate Fighting Championship (UFC) and currently competes in Heavyweight division. In between the champion Russia has tried making comebacks to the wrestling world but without any great luck.
The 2012 Olympics medallist & 3-time world champion Makhov will compete in 125kg category of freestyle wrestling in Moscow. Despite the fact that Makhov won his last world title in 2010, he is still the force to reckon with in Russian heavy wrestling circles and will try to make it to the team for Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His performance at the gala tournament in Moscow will not only be the first step towards the selection for the Olympic Games in Tokyo but also be keenly watched by the wrestling world.
