Russian wrestler Sharif Sharifov has been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The 2012 Olympic Champion confirmed the news to Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation’s (AWF) media platform. He said, “All my family members, including my wife, mother, father and sister, were also infected with the coronavirus. It’s not an influenza virus, it’s a very dangerous virus”.

He continued: “I have a mild form of the disease and I am currently recovering, but my mother has been hospitalized”.
Sharifov too hails from the Dagestan region of Russia which is the most affected area of the country. A few days ago, four-time world champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev had also confessed of getting infected by the deadly virus.
In an Instagram post, the Russia wrestler said, “I admit like most of my countrymen I too did not attach importance to the coronavirus. We underestimated the disease, we began to feel its danger and threat only when it knocked on our door. I transferred it”. Russia has reported 5.69 million positive coronavirus cases in total.
