2012 Olympic champion Sharif Sharifov was diagnosed with coronavirus. Reportedly, Sharifov – a native of Dagestan — who lives in Makhachkala and his family has been infected by the virus. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Sunday had announced that Dagestan has suffered a lot from the pandemic. The ex-world and European champion now competes for Azerbaijan.
He told Russian Wrestling Federation “I myself got this virus. My whole family got sick – me, wife, mom, dad and sister. As if everyone passed it to each other. It’s not just flu, but a dangerous virus. Mom was even put in the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia, and she was discharged home on May 19. Unlike my mother, my illness was mild. It was just fever and pain. ” The report added that the wrestler and his family has now recovered and doing well.
Sharifov has confirmed the quota for Tokyo Games in 97kg after winning silver in Nur-Sultan. Although a Russian born, he now represents Azerbaijan.
