The U.S. women’s freestyle team wrapped up its Pan American Wrestling Championships on Sunday, collecting three more gold medals and winning the team title in Ottawa, Canada. The USA also picked up a gold medal in men’s freestyle as that style began its competition today.
Scoring individual titles for the Red, White and Blue was Victoria Anthony at 50 kg, Mallory Velte at 62 kg, Tamyra Mensah-Stock at 68 kg and Jason Nolf at 79 kg in men’s freestyle.
Winning her second-consecutive gold medal, Mensah-Stock put together an awesome performance at 68 kg that earned her that tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler award.
After recording two pins and a technical fall in the morning session, Mensah-Stock added another pin, sticking 2018 U23 World champion Yudari Sanchez Rodriguez in a rematch of last year’s Pan Am finals.

Leading 2-0 at the break, the American scored a takedown and added a tilt, holding Sanchez to her back and eventually earned the fall at the 4:46-mark.
2018 World bronze medalist Velte won her finals bout at 62 kg decisively, defeating Lais Nunes de Oliveira for the second time today.
The two met earlier in the day in pool action, where Velte recorded a 6-4 win. This time, the American used an early four-point throw to propel her to a 6-2 victory for her first Pan Am gold medal.
Anthony collected her third Pan Am Championships gold medal today, winning the 50 kg bracket. In the finals, she won by injury default as three-time Pan Am Games medalist Carolina Castillo Hidalgo of Colombia did not compete.
Anthony now owns Pan Am golds from 2014, 2017 and 2020.
Jason Nolf, the lone rep for the USA in men’s freestyle today, also won his weight with an injury default in the finals over Victor Hernandez Luna from Mexico. Nolf went 2-0 on the day, picking up a 10-0 tech fall in the morning session.
With his gold-medal performance, Nolf has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Finishing with silver was five-time World champion and four-time Pan Am champion Adeline Gray, who injury defaulted her finals match at 76 kg.
At 53 kg, Haley Augello ended her tournament with a fourth-place finish.
Overall, the U.S. women’s team won the team title with 152 points, thanks to three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze.
The Pan American Championships wrap up tomorrow with the eight remaining men’s freestyle weights. Among those competing for the U.S. are Olympic champions Jordan Burroughs and Kyle Snyder.
