Poland Open Wrestling 2021 Ranking Series: Can Olympics champ Roman Vlasov win first gold of the year in build-up to Tokyo Olympics

By   - 12/06/2021

Poland Open Wrestling 2021 Ranking Series: Roman Vlasov is a two time Olympics champion and is looking to become just the third Greco-Roman wrestler to win three gold medals if he can take care of business in Japan. The 29-year-old will be competing in his first competition since December last year. He will headline the 15-man bracket which will also feature 2012 Olympic silver medalist Tamas Lorincz of Ukraine.

Vlasov had missed the majority of 2020, first due to a shoulder injury, followed by the forced lockdown. He made his return with the Russian Championship, held in October 2020 with the Russian Championship. The national competition had also acted as the selection trial for Russia’s Tokyo Olympics Team. Vlasov bagged the gold medal in 77kg.

He has built a reputation for being one of the strongest in the Russian weight room. He has used that strength on many occasions to launch opponents in his numerous world and continental performances.
