Wrestling News: Rahul Aware returned to the camp on Thursday after battling from Covid-19. He will stay in quarantine for another two-three days before joining fellow wrestlers for training. “I will get discharged today, and will go straight to the SAI centre. After being in isolation for a few more days, I will return to training”.
The Maharashtra-wrestler is the only one who will be allowed to join the camp. According to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Deepak Punia (86kg), Krishan Saroha (125kg) and Navin (65kg) — who were tested positive — will not be allowed to train at the SAI premises for now.
‘Only Rahul Aware will be allowed back in the camp as he cannot return to Pune due to the COVID protocols. Others will not be allowed to join back until we work out the protocol for recovered athletes,” the source told WrestlingTV from Sonepat camp.
The 26-men wrestling camp will end on September 30.
Meanwhile, the Wrestling Federation of India is planning to start the women’s national camp from October 1. Vinod Tomar, WFI’s Assistant Secretary said, “SAI had asked our recommendation on the women’s camp and we have proposed them to begin it from October 1”. The national camp will be held at Lucknow SAI centre.
A total of 15 wrestlers in five weight categories — 50kg, 53kg, 57kg, 62kg and 68kg), as well as four support staff will be part of the women’s camp.
