As expected, Indian wrestlers shine on the day 1 of the wrestling competitions in the 13th South Asian Federation (SAF) Games. All the four wrestles in action on the Day 1 of the competition easily won gold medals for India. Sheetal Tomar in 50kg, Pinki in 57kg, Amit Kumar in 65kg & Rahul Kumar in 57kg toyed with their opponents from Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri-Lanka in the wrestling competitions. Such was the domination of the Indian wrestlers that none of the wrestlers from opponent countries could even score a point against any of the Indian wrestlers.

India has fielded 14 member strong team in SAF Games and it will be expected that all 14 wrestlers return back with podium finish. The wrestling competition of the SAF Games are being conducted in Janakpur which is 240 kilometers from Kathmandu.

The Wrestling Federation of India had decided to field wrestlers only in the 7 categories each of the competition instead of 20. All of the selected members of the team recently won gold at the Tata Motors Senior National Wrestling championships in Jalandhar.
