Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik gets a lifeline as WFI will once again conduct trials in 62kg category. Sakshi lost to Sonam Malik in the first trials but her silver medal-winning performance and a sub-par performance by Sonam gave Sakshi another chance.
WFI has also deposed that trials will also be conducted in the 76kg category. This means like Sakshi, Gursharan Preet Kaur will also get a second chance to stake a claim for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers ticket. In the category of 57kg Anshu Malik has sealed her spot for the Asian Qualifiers.
Anshu’s Rome Ranking series silver and bronze medal-winning performance in the Asian Championships has shut doors for Olympic Qualifications for Pooja Dhanda. Like 57kg, no trials will be conducted in 50kg, 68kg.
Both Nirmala Devi and Divya Kakran will represent India at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Kyrgyzstan. WFI has fixed date of 26th February for trials in 62 and 76kg categories in Lucknow.
