The global sporting fraternity is gearing up for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Every athlete dreams to be part of the Olympic 2020 bandwagon and the Olympic Qualifiers is what the Indian and the global wrestling fraternity is concentrating on in the first quarter of Year 2020. The cream of the wrestling world has already booked their licenses for Tokyo at the World Championships 2019 in Nur-Sultan. The top 6 finishers at the world championship in each Olympic category has already qualified for the Olympics 2020. 4 Indian wrestlers have already booked their quota places for the Tokyo 2020, the remaining still have 2 more chances.
Details of the UWW Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualification process The United World Wrestling has scheduled two more qualifier tournaments for the Tokyo 2020, one the Continental Qualifier in the month of March & then the last opportunity the World Qualifiers in April 2020. Overall categories from 30 (10 each FS, WW, GR) in a world championship has been reduced to 18 (6 each FS, WW, GR) for the Tokyo Olympics. Not only this, on the behest of the organizers and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), UWW has also decided to limit 16 wrestlers per weight category at the Olympics. Once the country secures a quota in the respective category, they will not be allowed to participate in the subsequent qualifying tournaments in that particular category.

Russia sitting pretty with 9 Qualification Spots already booked
The global powerhouse of wrestling is leading the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification race as well. Russia is leading the race with 9 out of 18 qualification spots already booked.
9 Quota Spots – Russia
8 Quota Spots – Japan, Kazakhstan
5 Quota Spots – Ukraine, China, Iran & Germany
4 Quota Spots – India, Georgia, Hungary, Turkey, USA, Uzbekistan
Overall 38 countries have booked 108 Quota places. The rest of 180 quota places will be released in the Continental Qualifiers and the World Qualifiers in Sofia in April 2020.
