India’s Naina has once again disappointed the Indian wrestling fans. After a one sided loss yesterday in the 72kg weight category against Marin Potril of Cuba, Naina got a chance to compete the repechage round as Cuban has booked her place in the finals. But Naina failed to capitalize on the opportunity and the 2019 Asian U23 champion lost out in the opening round of repechage as well to Evgenia Zakharchenko of Russia.

The world 2019 and 2018 Junior silver medallist Russian thrashed Naina by 10-0 to move to the next round.

Earlier Naina was beaten yesterday by 2019 Junior World Champion Marin Potril of Cuba. Potril who also has Youth Olympic Games title to her credit won 13-3 against the Indian on Thursday.

The Day 5 of the UWW U23 World Wrestling Championships is underway in Budapest, Hungary and India’s Greco-Roman wrestlers will be seen in action. 3 time Junior world championship medallist Sajan in 77kg will be India’s biggest hope in the Greco-Roman competition. Sajan has drawn American Jesse Alexander Porter in the first round.

Other than 77kg, Arjun Halakurki in 55kg, Rajeet in 63kg, Sunil Kumar in 87kg and Deepak Poonia in 130kg will be on mat during the day and kick of their world championships.

But the biggest bout of the day for India will be in evening when India’s power-girl Pooja Gehlot will battle for bronze against the multiple world championship title winner Haruna Okuno of Japan.
