The global body of world wrestling United World Wrestling (UWW) has released the list of best wrestlers of the world for the Cadet category. India performed brilliantly at the Cadet world championships in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2019 as Sonam and Komal both won gold medals for India. But it was Japanese Honoka Nakai who was adjudged as the best women wrestler in the cadet category by UWW and the Indian girls missed out on the award.
Cadet Women Wrestler of the Year
Honoka NAKAI (JPN) has been named the Cadet Women’s Wrestler of the Year. Nakai won her second straight cadet world title while out scoring her four #WrestleSofia opponents 24-1. India also had world champions in the category as Komal (40kg) and Sonam (65kg) also won the cadet world championship golds in 2019 but missed out on the awards as Nakai had won the title twice.
Cadet Freestyle Wrestler of the Year
?Rahman AMOUZADKHALILI (IRI) was named United World Wrestling’s Cadet Freestyle Wrestler of the Year after winning back-to-back world titles. The Iranian outscored his four #WrestleSofia opponents 30-5 en route to a second world gold medal.? India won 4 bronze medals at the Cadet world’s

Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year
Nihat MAMMADLI (AZE) was named the Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year. The Azeri improved on his world silver from a year ago and won titles at this year’s Cadet World and European Championships.
Junior Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year
Turkey’s ?? Kerem KAMAL was named United World Wrestling’s Junior Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year after capturing his third junior world title.
Junior Freestyle Wrestler of the Year
Deepak PUNIA has been named United World Wrestling’s Junior Freestyle Wrestler of the Year. Punia ended an 18 year drought and became the first Indian wrestler to win a junior world title since 2001.
18 year old Deepak Punia became the first Indian wrestler to win gold at the Junior World Championships in Estonia. If that wasn’t enough Punia wrestled powerfully to become the only Indian wrestler in 2019 to enter the finals of the senior world wrestling championships. He could not play the final against Hassan Yazdani of Iran because of injury but qualified for Tokyo 2020 in 86kg category.
Punia is currently ranked number 1 in the UWW rankings of 86kg category and will be India’s big hope at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Earlier Punia has also won the Cadet World Championships gold in 2016.
Junior Women Wrestler of the Year
Japan’s Yui SUSAKI has been named United World Wrestling’s Junior Women’s Wrestler of the Year. Susaki outscored her five #WrestleTallinn opponents 46-0 en route to her second consecutive junior world title.
