UWW Asia President writes letter to members, says for now health more important than wrestling

The Asian body of the World Wrestling, UWW Asia has written letter to the member federations urging them to take Athletes health as the biggest priority at this stage. The letter addressed by Daulet Turlykhanov, UWW Asia President to the member federations stresses on the health of the members of the wrestling fraternity. The President has called on the member nations and have asked them to be patient with the orders and suggestions of the authorities to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus. The letter further says that the continental events including the Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers will only be held after August and right now for everyone health should be the first priority.

All Asian federations, members of the World Wrestling Federation, are facing a challenging situation these days due to the release of the Cavid 19 virus. Meanwhile, the large wrestling community is no exception, and we have a duty to abide by the orders and suggestions of the responsible authorities. It is our duty as human beings to fight this virus, and this is only possible through social responsibility.As you are aware, the Asian countries of the United World Wrestling in the early days of the virus was planning to hold the Olympic Qualifier event so that athletes in our content gets fair chance to represent their respective countries in the Olympics. But after increase of Covid19 pandemic we had to take the decision to postpone these competitions. We all know for sure that it was the right decision. Athletes’ health is undoubtedly the most important priority for all of us, and all of us know that even the International Olympic Committee has decided to postpone the Tokyo Olympics until next summer. In this way, we will now have time to hold these competitions at later stage, most probably between August 1st to 17th. In addition, the quotas earned to this day will remain in force.

Unfortunately, these developments have changed the calendar of the United World Wrestling as well, which has affected several major events, including those scheduled for this year in Asia. But I urge all of you to look at things positively now that you are spending time with your loved ones at home. This is a great opportunity to relax and reflect on what is important to all of us individually.
