The world’s best wrestler currently
Abdulrashid Sadulaev has been banned by
United World Wrestling (UWW) for wearing a T-shirt depicting religious and political messaging. The news about the ban has been confirmed himself by the 4 time world champion wrestler through his instagram account. The wrestler nicknamed ‘Russian Tank’ has notified on his account that
‘he has been banned by 4 months as the UWW rules during major regulations has strict regulations and it does not allow images of political and religious leaders messaging”
With the Caption – Verified “Assalam Alaikum, friends. I receive a lot of messages and words of support, and in this regard, I decided to comment on the situation with my disqualification.
As it turned out, the United World Wrestling (UWW) during major competitions has strict regulations – you can’t appear on the pedestal in clothes with the image of political and religious leaders.
Despite everything, for me personally, Imam Shamil was and remains a great personality, pride and role model. This whole situation will not affect my mood and preparation for the main starts. Thank you all for your support. As planned, see you in February!”

Sadulayev is the reigning Olympic champion and recently won the world championship title once again in Nur-Sultan in September. It was in this event that he was spotted with T-Shirt T-shirt depicting Imam Shamil, a 19th-century leader from Sadulayev’s native Dagestan. The incident did not go down well with the global governing body for the sport of wrestling UWW and they decided to ban the champion for four months.
But the most surprising part is that UWW has never officially communicated about the Sadulaev ban to anyone apart from the officials of Russian federation and the wrestler himself. It has now been learnt that the suspension was backdated to that date, meaning it ends in late January and the champion will be back in February.
This means that
Sadulayev will only miss the opening ranking series event in January in Rome but will be still eligible for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
United World Wrestling rules prohibit political and religious messages and signs during competition. Sadulayev, 23, went undefeated at the senior international level for nearly four years from 2013 to 2017, when he was beaten by American Kyle Snyder in a world championships final dubbed the “Match of the Century.” Sadulayev came back to win the last two world titles.
