United World Wrestling (UWW) is reportedly mulling to organise alternative competitions, if problem arises in hosting the World Wrestling Championships. Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation President Namik Aliyev said that if not world championships, then some other international tournament will be held, reported Azerisport.com The issue will be discussed on October 5 at the UWW Executive Committee meeting.
“If problems arise with the holding of the World Championship in Belgrade, then UWW intends to hold a large international tournament with the participation of the 10 best teams, including the Azerbaijani national team,” Aliyev said.
The senior world championship is scheduled for December 12-20 in Belgrade, Serbia. As for the junior worlds, it is dated to take place from December 4 to 10.
The UWW has set the prerequisites for these competitions: a minimum participation of 70% of athletes compared to the same competition last year, as well as the participation of 8-10 leading teams.
Recently, UWW sent letters to the national wrestling federations with a request to notify by October 2 about the participation or non-participation of their teams in the World Championships and the World Championships, and if the answer is positive, indicate in what styles and in what number the teams delegated to Belgrade will be represented.
As for the international tournaments scheduled for November, the UWW gave the right to decide on their holding to the national wrestling federations, taking into account the epidemiological situation.
Thus, according to our information, Poland is preparing to hold traditional tournaments in three styles of wrestling in Warsaw on November 4-8. International tournaments “Alexander Medved” in Belarus and “Dan Kolov” in Bulgaria are also planned for the first ten days of November.
