UWW World Championship 2019 Live: Pooja Dhanda to wrestle in 59kg non-Olympic category

By   - 11/09/2019

This is the weight category which no women wrestler wants to participate. Reason, 59Kg weight category is not the category which will be seen at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Most of the champion wrestlers like Japan’s two-time world and Olympic champion Risako KAWAI holds the world’s top-ranking at 59kg, but since winning her Budapest world title, she’s dropped down to the Olympic weight of 57kg.

But ironically India’s Pooja Dhanda, the 2018 world championship bronze medallist at 57kg has to do reverse. As Pooja lost out in the trials for 57Kg to compatriot Sarita Mor, WFI decided to field her in 59kg weight category.
