UWW World Championship LIVE: Vinesh, Seema back in repechage

Vinesh Phogat and Seema are back in contention for a medal at the UWW World Championships in Nur-Sutltan, Kazakhstan. Both the Indian girls will play repechage round in their respective categories tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

Vinesh had started her UWW World Championship campaign on a brilliant note as she beat former World champion Sofia Magdalena Mattsson of Sweden with a technical superiority verdict following the 12-0 lead in the second round. Second round turned out to be an anti-climax as he was beaten 7-0 by Mayu Mukaida of Japan.

Since the Japanese girl has made it to the 53kg final, defeating Greek wrestler Maria Prevolaraki 4-0 in the semi-final, Vinesh is back in contention with the repechage berth. She will now start her quest for a bronze against Yuliia Khavaldzhy Blahinya of Ukraine.

Seema’s nemesis in the first round, Mariya Stadnik from Azerbaijan too has progressed to the 50 kg final, opening the doors for the Indian wrestler for a repechage round bout against Miesinnei Mercy Genesic of Nigiria.

In other on Wednesday, Sarita (57kg), Pooja Dhanda (59 kg), Navjot Kaur (65 kg) and Kiran (76 kg) will take to mat as the f0urth day’s action unfolds from 10:30 pm.
