UWW’s World Cup Day 1 result: The lack of competition effect was evidently seen on the mat, when India’s Greco-Roman contingent began the Individual World Cup campaign in Serbia on Saturday. Asian Championship hero Sunil Kumar lost the game within one minute in the pre-quarterfinal against Fabio Parisi of Italy.
Arjun Halakurki was the brightest of the lot. He managed to qualify in the 55kg but was pinned by Portugal’s Andre Ricardo Silva in the quarter-finals.
On Day, 2, India will three wrestlers. All eyes will be on Hardeep who won bronze in the 97kg at the Asian Championship in February. Other two wrestlers who will by vying a confident comeback are Gyanender in 60kg and Naveen in 130kg.
