Rahul Aware from India will rue this loss of opportuity for lifetime. Aware had a golden chance to make it to the UWW world wrestling championship finals but he waste the chance of lifetime. Seeded number 2 in the 61kg weight category Aware comfortably entered semi-finals but lost out to 2016 world championship silver medallist Beka Lomtadze in the last 4 bout.
Aware started slowly and cautiously which proved very costly for the Indian grappler. Down 2-8, 2018 CWG Gold medallist tried making a comeback by reducing the gap to 6-8 but that was not enough. In the end Georgian prevailed by 10-6 to enter finals.
In the absence of Rashidov of Russia and Daniel Colon of USA, Aware was strong favorite to win over Georgian but carelessness on part of Aware costed him place in the finals.
Earlier, Aware won a close bout Rassul Kaliyev of Kazakhstan to book a semi-final berth but the category of 61kg being a non-olympic category, Aware’s effort will not give him Tokyo 2020 ticket.
Aware who recently won a gold-medal at the Yasar Dogu will now play for Bronze on the final day of the competition on Sunday.
