Japan became the second country after the USA to pull out from the proposed world championship. According to Iran Wrestling Federation, there are some more countries who might withdraw from the December-bound event. Not much is known about the reason for the decision, however, it is expected that it is due to the second wave of COVID-19 in Europe.
United World Wrestling (UWW) is planning to hold the competition in Belgrade, Serbia from December 12 to 20. It will hold an executive meeting on November 6 to take a final call on it.
The decision would mean that the Japanese wrestlers will now participate at the Emperor’s Cup which is scheduled around the same time as the worlds.
Canada might withdraw too
Wrestling Canada will be making a decision regarding its attendance at the Senior World Championships in the coming weeks.
