Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is set to get recognised by the Sports Ministry. As per the affidavit filed by Raju Bagga, under-secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the ministry has decided to renew WFI and Weightlifting Federation’s recognition by one year. “It is submitted that the Answering Respondent has decided to renew the recognition of Indian Weightlifting Federation and Wrestling Federation for one year with effect from the date of issue of the proposed letters to be issued to the above two NSFs,” Bagga said as reported by Hindustan Times.
The news will come as a huge relief for both the federations who were derecognised by the sports ministry in June on Dehli High Court’s orders. With getting recognised, WFI will once again become eligible to get government grants or begin their normal activities like holding national camps or organising competitions.
Meanwhile, WFI will resume the Women’s National Camp from October 10. A total of 15 wrestlers including Olympic-bound Vinesh Phogat, world medallist Pooja Dhanda and 2016 Olympic bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik have been shortlisted for the camp.
