Olympic medallist banned for four years
Wrestling News: Freestyle wrestler Jenny Fransson, a bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Games, has been dropped from the Swedish team for the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for the banned steroid methyltestosterone, the country’s Olympic committee (SOC) said on Friday.

WFI to sack Andrew Cook
Wrestling India: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is set to terminate the services of women’s coach Andrew Cook for his refusal to participate in SAI’s online sessions for non-payment of salary, a claim refuted by the American. Cook had left for Seattle after the national camp for women wrestlers in Lucknow was suspended in March owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

UWW Hall of Famer passes away at 84
Wrestling News: Stefan Kazaryan of Armenia, former wrestler and referee inducted into the UWW Hall of Fame in 2011, has died. He was 84. In addition to success on the mats and as a referee, Kazarayan was also an establishing member of the FILA Coaches, Technical, and Advanced School for Coaches Department.

Wrestling India: Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia gave a strong reply to world champ Gadzhimurad Rashidov for his “Bajrang is too comfy for me” comment. He said, ‘we will decide it on the mat’. Both Bajrang and Rashidov are the best wrestlers in the 65kg freestyle but are yet to lock horns on the mat. However, with a complete whitewash of 2020 calendar, the only place the two are likely to meet is at the Tokyo Olympics.

Kiren Rijiju: Sporting Events likely to begin from August
Wrestling India: Sports minister Kiren Rijiju has given good news that sporting events are likely to resume from August onwards. In a virtual meeting with representatives of the Indian Olympic Association and 15 National Federations, he discussed the way forward for sports in India. It means that wrestlers can finally expect to return to the national camps and begin their preparations for the Tokyo Olympics which will be held next year.

Uww clears air on Greco Roman’s future at Paris Olympics 2024
Wrestling News: The United World Wrestling (UWW) has cleared the air on the report about the possibility of Greco Roman’s exclusion from the Olympic programme. It says that Greco classical style wrestling will not be excluded from the Paris 2024 Olympics. Earlier, member of UWW Bureau and President of Azerbaijan wrestling Namik Aliyev said that Greco Roman wrestling will most likely not be present at the Paris Olympics.

Youth Olympic Games 2022 dates and location announced
Wrestling News: The location for the Youth Olympic Games 2022 has been announced. The Youth Summer Games will be held in Dakar Senegal from October 22 to November 9. Athletes between 15 to 18 years will be participating at the biennial tournament.
