79kg – Gourav Baliyan in Finals
Baliyan maintained great composure and showed great skills to enter the finals of the non-Olympic category of 79kg. Baliyan won an absolute thriller of the semi-finals against Shinkichi Okui of Japan. Playing his first Senior Asian Championships Baliyan was down at the starting of the first half by 0-3 but the young Indian maintained his focus and won the bout by 6-5.
97Kg – Satyawart Kadian won semi-finals in 45 seconds
On the road of redemption, India’s Kadian made it to the finals of the 97kg category. Kadian the Asian 2019 bronze medallist defeated Rustam Iskandari of Tajikistan in mere 45 seconds to make it to the gold medal match for the first time in his career. Kadian will have his task cut out in the finals as he will take on Mojtaba Mohammadshafie GOLEIJ of Iran. Goleij is 2 times Under 23 World champion and was recently announced as UWW U23 Wrestler of the year 2019.
70kg – Naveen, the only one to miss out on gold medal bout; will play for bronze
Despite playing so well throughout the morning session, Naveen missed out on reaching the finals of the 70kg category. He lost out to Amirhossein Ali HOSSEINI of Iran in a closely contested match with a scoreline of 2-3. He will be up against the Kazakh Meirzhan ASHIROV in the bronze medal bout later this evening.
Ashirov is a 2018 Asian Championships bronze medallist and would be looking to seal another bronze when he meets Naveen later this evening.
