Ukraine has decided to allow athletes to train behind closed doors. 2016 Olympic medallist and politician Zhan Beleniuk in April had initiated an amendment to the quarantine law in which he had asked to allow the athletes to carry out full training. The government has given its nod and has relaxed athletes from their quarantine law. However, there is still ambiguity in the law.
Beleniuk says that it seems the law is not for everyone and that the lifting of restrictions applies only to team sports. He has demanded an explanation for the same. “The cabinet promised to give a clarification which I have not received yet. What they indicated is the opportunity to train at the closed bases only for team sports. This is as I understand, that only the teams will train,” hinting towards Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine football team.
“We need clarification because a base like Koncha-Zaspa allows athletes to enter and train there without leaving. Athletes can say their at all times. In this regard, I do not see the difference between sportspeople of individual sports and team sports,” he told Ukrainian media.
