With Junior and Women’s nationals championship over, the Russian Wrestling Federation is all set to host the freestyle competition. The Russian Freestyle nationals will be held fro October 15 to 18 in Naro-Fominsk. Wrestlers are pumped up as wrestling is returning. Dagestan, the Mecca of wrestling was the worst affected by covid-19 in Russia, has now opened its gyms for training. And Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev and others have returned are gearing up for the upcoming tournament.
Russian Freestyle Championship Admission criteria:
The nationals will be held with only 16 wrestlers per weight due to the pandemic. This year’s championship will act as a selection window for the upcoming world championship.
“Due to the fact that the Russian championship will be held with some restrictions, only 16 people in weight will be able to take part in the championship, and the leading tournaments of the recent past are taken as a basis: the Russian championship of 2019, the Yaryginsky tournament of 2020, as well as the tournament “Alany-2020? and the World Cup-2019,” Fadzaev said. “The winners of the recently concluded Junior championships will also be allowed to take part. A total of 160 wrestlers will participate in the event”.
Russian Freestyle Championship to be held behind closed doors
“The tournament will be held behind closed, however, the matches will be broadcast live. Wrestlers, coaches, referees, medical personnel, technical personnel, journalists – only with their presence we can fulfil the conditions of Rospotrebnadzor on social distance,” he added.
