Moundir Benammar was the lone gold winner for hosts Algeria as Egypt reigned supreme on the second day of the African Wrestling Championships in Algiers on Wednesday.
Egyptian wrestlers romped home with eight of the ten cadet freestyle titles decided on Wednesday while Benammar got the consolation for hosts Algeria with the 47 kg gold. South Africa’s Francois Johannes Germishuys was the only other wrestler to interrupt Egypt’s absolute domination.
Germishuys bagged the 71 kg gold. He prevailed over with Egypt’s Moamen Moustafa in the title bout. Bennamar beat Tunisia’s Mohamed Amine Thamlaoui for the 45 kg gold.

Elsewhere, it was an absolute Egyptian domination. In the heaviest 110kg category Adham Abdelkarim beat Tunisia’s Mohammed Nassen; Mohamed Salaheldin won the 92kg gold by stopping South Africa’s Mundell Brown in the final; Omar Hasmany took the 80kg title with silver going to Yacine Lakrout from the host nation.
The other Egyptian gold medallists included Mohamed Abdelhady, who beat Tunisia’s Mohamed Zorgui in the 65kg final; the 60kg champion Khaled Mohamed denied hosts Algeria the gold with a win over Rida Djeffel; in 55 kg Abdelrahman Mahmoud also stopped an Algerian in the final – defeating Abderrahmane Benaissa;
Shehabeldin Mohamed another Egyptian won the 51kg final against Algeria’s Islam Zerrougui and Omar Mourad claimed the 48kg title with silver going to Tunisia’s Mohamed Hkiri.
