Asian Wresting Championships 2020: Wrestler Sunil Kumar, the biggest hope for India in Greco-Roman

Sunil Kumar is a one of a kind wrestler who recently won Silver medal in his maiden-senior level appearance at the Rome Ranking series, 2020 in January. Sunil has had a good record prior to this well having clinched gold in the Tata Motors Senior national wrestling championships. Sunil was born on 29th September, 1999. He started wrestling at an early age of 10 and his first Akhada was in Jind, Haryana. Sunil is currently working with the Indian Railways, where he had joined in 2018. His favourite player is world medalist Bajrang Punia.

Sunil has many medals under his belt, the major one being the Silver Medal at the Rome Ranking series, 2020, where he performed magically. He has won Gold Medals at Senior National Championships, 2019 in Jalandhar, Under-23 National Championships, 2019 in Shirdi and Commonwealth Championships, 2017 in South Africa. Sunil has also clinched Silver Medals in Cadet Asian Championships 2016, Taipei, Senior Asian Championships 2019, China and Asian Wrestling Championships, 2019. He won bronze at the Asian Games Wrestling, 2010 and in the junior level he won bronze in the Junior Asian Championships for three consecutive years 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The senior Asian Wrestling Championships, 2020 is set to take place in Delhi from February 18-23 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in Indira Gandhi stadium. The United World Wrestling gave hosting rights to the national capital after through inspections and evaluation. The other city which was in the race is Cuttack (Orissa). This will also be the 8th time India will be hosting the flagship event. The wrestling matches will take place on all the 6 days from 10:30 am-8:30 pm.
