In the 53kg category bout for Asian supremacy, 2018 Asian games gold medallist looked circumspect from the start which resulted in Mukaida drawing the first blood. The first round ended with two time world champion from Japan with 2-0 lead.
Mukaida started on a very attacking note as in the second round as with-in first 30 seconds itself she scored 4 points to lead 6-0 in this much anticipated encounter. Vinesh tried making a comeback by scoring 2 but that wasn’t enough as the champion from Japan handed Vinesh her third consecutive defeat at her hands.
Fresh from the Rome rankings series gold in January it was expected that Vinesh will prove to be a batter match for her nemesis. In 2019 World Championships in September Mukaida defeated Vinesh by 7-0. The margin was far bigger in the 2019 Asian Championships in China as Vinesh lost to Mukaida by 0-10 margin.
Vinesh will now attempt to contest for Bronze medal in the 53kg category later in the day.
