Asian Wrestling Championships 2020 Day 3: Indian wrestlers in action; Divya Kakran

After the heroics by Indian wrestlers in the Greco-Roman over the first two days, it is time for some action of Women Wrestling.

The 33rd edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships which is going on in New Delhi will witness several Indian champions in the Women Wrestling. There are five wrestlers who will be participating in five different categories on day 2.

In round 2 of the 68kg category, Divya Kakran defeated Delgermaa Enkhsaikhan of Mongolia by 11-2 to make it two wins in a row.

In the quarterfinals of the 50kg category, Nirmala defeated Munkhnar Byambasuren of Mongolia in a closely fought contest. She beat the Mongolian 11-2 to reach the semis.

Along with Nirmala, Sarita also enters semis in the 59kg category after beating Nazira Marsbek Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan comprehensively by a margin of 11-0.

Divya Kakran flew past her opponent and defeated Kazakhstan’s wrestler Albina Kairgeldinova in under two minutes. Divya cruised past Albina by a scoreline of 6-0 to make it three first-round wins for Indian wrestlers on day 3 of Asian Championship 2020.

While three Indians started off with victories, Kiran lost her round 1 match against Elmira Syzdykova of Kazakhstan on technical basis. The match initially ended at 6-6.

In the 59kg category, Sarita cruised past Madina Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan in a one-sided contest. She beat Madina by 10-0.

In the first bout of day 3, Pinki started off positively and secured first win of the day for India in round 1 of the 55kg category. She defeated Shokhida Akhmedova of Uzbekistan by 12-4.

76kg – Round 2 – Thi Linh DANG (VIE) lost to Kiran KIRAN (IND) 2-4

68kg – Round 2 – Delgermaa ENKHSAIKHAN (MGL) lost to Divya KAKRAN (IND) 2-11

50kg – Quarterfinals – Munkhnar BYAMBASUREN (MGL) lost to Devi NIRMALA (IND) 4-6

68kg – Round 1 – Divya KAKRAN (IND) def Albina KAIRGELDINOVA (KAZ) 6-0

76kg – Round 1 – Kiran (IND) lost to Elmira SYZDYKOVA (KAZ) 6-6 (on technical basis)

59kg – Round 1 – Madina BAKBERGENOVA (KAZ) lost to Sarita (IND) 0-10

55kg – Round 1 – Shokhida AKHMEDOVA (UZB) lost to Pinki (IND) 4-12
