Rahul Aware’s wrestling colleagues are now a days sweating it out at the national training camp in Sonepat. But the World Championship bronze medallist Aware decided to give the national camp a miss for few days. Reason, he was occupied with the police training in Nashik at the Maharashtra Police Academy. Post the training, Aware will be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Maharashtra Police.
“ I am extremely happy to be appointed as DSP in Maharashtra Police. I will serve my state and country to the best of abilities in this capacity as well” Aware told WrestlingTV from his police training base.
So does this mean, the Indian champion from Maharashtra is keeping his wrestling ambitions on hold. Aware in an telephonic interview with WrestlingTV put these doubts on rest and said that he will soon be seen in action at the camp.
“ I will finish my mandatory 1 month training by 1st January and will try to join camp by 3rd in Sonepat. I will also prepare myself for the trials for the Asian Championships in the 61kg category”, said Aware.
Aware won a bronze medal at the Nur-Sultan world wrestling championships this year in September in the non-olympic category of 61kg. But his dream to play in Tokyo Olympics hit a roadblock as both Ravi Dhaiya (57kg) and Bajrang Punia (65kg) booked a quota for Tokyo denying Aware a chance to shift to the Olympic weight category. In an earlier interview to WrestlingTV Aware has confirmed that if not Tokyo Olympics he will try to book his place in the Indian team for the Asian Championships in Delhi in February.
