India’s ace wrestler Bajrang Punia and 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist Hassan Yazdani of Iran are “very good friends” and they keep in touch even during off-seasons. Therefore, it was no surprise when the 26-year-old said that he messaged the Iranian wrestler in the time when the world is fighting the deadly Coronavirus pandemic. Bajrang on Saturday enquired Yazdani on WhatsApp to know the well-being of his father Hossein.
“I messaged him on Saturday night. We had a good talk. I asked how his father was doing as he had been diagnosed with Coronavirus. It was worrying news but I am glad his father is now recovering,” Bajrang told WrestlingTV.
Yazdani’s father was diagnosed Coronavirus positive on March 17 and was put under quarantine for 14-days. Since the 86kg Men’s Freestyle World No.1 had been living with his father, he was suspected to be infected too. However, no official announcement on his health has been made yet.
Yazdani had recently come back from a knee injury and was recovering from it. Bajrang confirmed that his Iranian counterpart was recuperating well from the injury and is in good health.
“Hassan is also recovering well from his knee injury, it is good that they are doing well considering the condition in Iran,” he added.
Iran is one of the worst-hit countries out of China form COVID-19. They have so far registered over 41,500 cases. The death toll has reached to more than 2,750. Iran is under complete lockdown with all the sporting events and training camps cancelled as a precautionary measure.
