Govt set up Parliamentary committee to monitor Tokyo Olympic preparations

The government has set up a parliamentary committee which will be responsible to monitor the preparations for the deferred-Tokyo Olympics. The standing committee headed by Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, member of Rajya Sabha, held its first meeting on Tuesday in New Delhi.

According to the New Indian Express report, the sports ministry, Sports Authority of India and five federations took part in it. The agenda for the meeting was to discuss the roadmap to the games which are scheduled to take place next year from July 23.

The five federations in attendance were Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and Hockey India (HI).

In the first meeting, the Sports Ministry and SAI gave a presentation on India’s preparations for the Tokyo Olympics and beyond.  The federations are expected to give their presentations next month.

As per the report, secretary-general VN Prasood and assistant secretary Vinod Tomar represented WFI. NRAI had president Raninder Singh and secretary Rajiv Bhatia present. For BFI, president Ajay Singh and RK Sacheti attended. President Biren Baisya and vice-president Sahdev Yadav turned up for WFI. HI chief executive officer Elina Norman and president Gyandendro Nigombam were present.
