Individual World Cup Day 2 Result: India’s Greco-Roman team had a disappointing outing at the world cup in Belgrade, Serbia. Just like the first day, the Indian wrestlers failed to make an impact on their comeback tournament.
The best performance came in the 60kg, where Gyanender beat Armen Melikyan in Armenia in the qualification round, followed by a win against Abdennour Laouni of Algeria 5-1 in pre-quarters. However, he could not continue his winning run and lost to Serbia’s Kristian Fris 9-0 on technical superiority.
In the 130kg, Naveen failed to qualify losing to to Eduard Popp of Germany 2-0. In 97kg too, M. Saravi of Iran beat Hardeep 5-1.
Meanwhile, from Day 3, women wrestling will begin. Four Indian wrestlers will test their mettle as they return to the mat after a long 10-month gap due to COVID-19.
The third day will feature 50kg, 55kg, 62kg, and 72kg weight categories. Interestingly, India had won medals in all these weight classes in February during the Asian Championships in New Delhi.
