Junior World Wrestling Championships: Sanju Devi & Bhateri lose gold medal matches, bag silver medals – In the gold medal matches on Friday, Sanju Devi and Bhateri both lost their respective 62kg and 65-kg category matches to settle for silver medals. Saagainst Russia’s Alina Kasabieva to settle for silver. Sanju lost to Russia’s Alina Kasabieva while Sanju lost to Moldova’s Irina Ringaci at the Junior Wrestling World Championships in Russia on Friday.

Sanju Devi had managed comeback wins in her previous bouts but Friday was not her day as Russia’s Alina Kasabieva took the gold with a technical superiority win. Kasabieva first effected a take down move and then got a two-point throw.

Up against a tough opponent in Alina Kasabieva, Sanju Devi didn’t get any chance to make an attack in the 62-kg final. The bout lasted only a little over a minute as Kasabieva took an early 10-point lead.

There was still hope but once the Russian got hold of Sanju’s leg and got the desired grip to execute ‘fitley’, there was no chance for the Indian to come back. The match was over inside the first period.

Junior World Wrestling Championships: Earlier, Sanju made a remarkable comeback as she was down 0-5 and then eventually defeated Azerbaijan’s Birgul Soltanova by 8-5.

Junior World Wrestling Championships: Bhateri loses gold to Irina Ringaci in 65kg

Bhateri, however, did try to make a comeback after going down 0-4 in the 1st Round. However, Ringaci’s strong defence prevented Bhateri. From 0-4 down, Bhateri closed the gap to 2-4 early in 2nd round but Ringaci took another two points before pinning her and open a 12-2 gap. That forced the match to end in Ringaci’s favour as she won 12-2 with technical superiority.

Bhateri in 65kg defeated Tunisia’s Jlassi Khadija and Romania’s Amina Roxana Capezan to reach the title match.

Bhateri vs Irina Ringaci 65kg: 

Round 2: It’s all over for Bhateri. Ringaci wins 12-2 on technical superiority.

Round 2: Bhateri scores 2 points but Ringaci fights back to take 6-2 lead.

Round 1: Bhateri trails 0-4 against Ringaci.

Round 1: Ringaci takes an early 4-point lead within a minute and half.

Saneh vs Guseinova Mariam 72kg: Saneh suffers injury, loses bronze medal 

Meanwhile, Saneh went down to Russia’s Guseinova Mariam in the 72-kg women’s wrestling after suffering a knee injury in the 1st Round. Trailing 0-3 in the 1st Round, Saneh broke her leg after an aggressive takedown two minutes into the match, handing the match to Guseinova. She had to be stretchered off.
