The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the postponement of the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Asiya Alimova told Olympic champion 2012 Natalia Vorobyeva about her attitude to this decision to WRESTRUS.RU correspondent.
“I expected this decision,” said Natalya Vorobyova. – And given what is happening in the world now – it is the most prudent. A lot of people got infected and died. Now you need to protect yourself and your loved ones as much as possible, survive all this and move on. Not everyone revolves around us athletes. Many people from all over the globe always come to the Olympic Games, and in this situation it will be simply dangerous there. Of course, this news will upset all athletes. People get ready for four years, fail to be in better shape. Less than six months are left before the Games. May God grant us all patience to hold out for another year. This decision is not just a whim of the IOC, it is a worldwide grief with which we must come to terms and wait for everything to pass.
The freestyle, women’s and Greco-Roman wrestling tournament at the Olympic Games was to be held from August 2 to 8.
