Rio Olympic Champion Ismael Borrero has fully recovered from the coronavirus infection and has been sent home. The Cuban wrestler got infected with COVID-19 after the Pan-American wrestling competition. He was immediately admitted to the Pedro Kouri Institue of Tropical Medicine in Havanna after testing positive.

Now, the doctors have declared him fit have allowed him to begin training. Borrero has qualified for Cuba in the 67kg Greco-Roman after winning gold at the 2019 World Championships held in Nur-Sultan.
He lives in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, in Havana. In 2016 he won the gold medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a year earlier the gold medal at the world championships held in Las Vegas, the United States in the 59 kg category.
