Cuba’s Greco-Roman wrestler Ismael Borrero was discharged from hospital after recovering from Coronavirus infection. The 2016 Rio Olympic Champion was admitted to Pedro Kouri Institue of Tropical Medicine in Havanna after he was tested positive for Covid-19. The hospital notified that he is recovering well and was allow to go home.
“Today is a super special day for all the followers of the Cuban struggle in any corner of the world. At last our Olympic and World Champion Ismael Borrero Molina has just been notified of his medical discharge at the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) in Havana, “said the national commissioner of struggle, Luis de la Portilla, reported a Cuban news daily.
Borrero, 28, arrived in the country on March 17 from Canada. He began to show symptoms a few days later and was admitted for recovery. A few days back, a Cuban daily reported that the World Champion is recovering well from the diseases.
“He is already out, healthy and psychologically very strong. He was like that from the first moment. Now he will fulfill the isolation that touches everyone and when we can he will return to the mattresses,” the commissioner said.
Ismael Borrero lives in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, in Havana. In 2016 he won the gold medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a year earlier the gold medal at the world championships held in Las Vegas, United States in the 59 kg category.
The commissioner added that they are already calm and “eager for the world to overcome this pandemic and that we can restart the route to the Tokyo Olympics .” The appointment, planned for this year, was postponed to the summer of 2021 due to the coronavirus.
