Russia’s Greco-Roman wrestler Roman Vlasov along with other residents of the Altai Republic has been put under quarantine after coronavirus cases spiked in the region. But despite in isolation the two-time Olympic Champion – 2012 London and 2016 Rio – continues to train for individually.
Vlasov posted a photo on the background of the mountains on his Instagram saying “We’ll have to sit on this quarantine for some time. We must be patient. We’ll breakthrough. We’ll see you soon. To all those who didn’t fall into apathy and retained fortitude, great respect. Difficulties will not break us, they will only make us stronger.”
The Altai Republic is a region in southern Siberia with a total population of 2,18,000 people. The region reported its fi6rst confirmed COVID-19 case on April 16. Following this Oleg Khorokhordin, Governor of Altai Republic decided to impose severe restrictions. As per the new order, all citizens who enter the region must undergo 14-day self-isolation. Reportedly, Vlasov fell under these restrictions.
He is three-time World medallist including two gold and one silver. Besides this, he has also won five European Championship titles. Vlasov trains under Viktor Kuznetsov, the same coach who raised Aleksandr Karelin.
Russia is one of the worst-hit countries of the world. The Soviet nation has reported over 1.45 lakh coronavirus cases, out of which 18,000 have recovered. The death toll is 1,356.
