On April 28, the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC) selected the JOC Sports Award winners for 2019, won the Special Achievement Award in the women’s 57 kg class of the World Championship, and Kawai became the world’s number one for the fourth consecutive year including the Olympics. Kawai was also awarded the highest award in 2018 with Takuto Otoguro (Yamanashi Gakuin University). It was the 2008 Beijing Olympics women’s team that was selected from the wrestling special achievement award.
The highest award is Hinako Shibuno, who won the second major title in 42 years in Japan for the All-Japan Women’s Open Golf.
The award ceremony was scheduled for June, but it has not been decided due to the spread of the coronavirus.
